Mustang fans must be heart broken
Look at these numbers for the top of the line 64000.00 mustang GT350R and 55000 Gt350
Comparing the GT350R to the base GT350, Motor Trend ran the two vehicles one after the other. The results — the base GT350 ran ran zero-to-sixty in 4.1 seconds versus the GT350R’s 3.9 seconds. In the quarter mile, the GT350 ran 12.4 @ 117.8 mph while the GT350R clocked out at 12.1 @ 119.6. In other words, the GT350R was 0.2 seconds faster from 0-60 and 0.3 seconds faster in the quarter mile with a higher trap speed. Now compare that to the new SS of 0 to 60 in 4.0 and a quarter mile of 12.4 all for 37300.00 LOL ... Ford really miss the boat on the new model year |

Yea the GT350 isn't as impressive as I thought it was going to be
Even Randy Probst said don't drive the R first before you decide on the GT350. Apparently the bottom end GT350 is kind of disappointing |

To be fair, the 350R is a track car not a drag car. I do agree though that they are missing the boat overhaul with the new mustang.

I was disappointed with the GT350. was really expecting some competition.
Maybe on the Gen7 camaro, they can dumb it down a little and let Ford catch up. |

I wouldn't be gloating about the hero runs GM and the auto rags have published. Until we get some real world data from owners in private hands, I'd be hesitant to call out the Mustang crowd....just yet. Let's wait until we see them at the dragstrip.

As was said about the ZL1 when the GT500 handed it it's ass on the drag strip, it is a track car. The 350 is not a 1/4 miler, get it on a twisty track and it will show you what it was built for.

I don't think they are or will be heart broken at all.

Its not made for the strip and its evident in the launches in this vid, but that does not make it a failure! Its great at what its built for and its gonna sell very well. And anything that sounds that good going down the track is a winner by default |

It's like saying the Z/28 is a failure based on quarter-mile times. It is a track car, and it does that very well.

The car is not set up at all for 1/4. It is set up with road courses in mind, just like the Z/28 |

Apples and oranges. As others have said, judging the 350 by its quarter/0-60 times is missing the point completely. It would decimate the SS on a course. I bet we'll eventually see the TTV6 used in the Ford GT powering a GT500, and that will be the straight line car.
The new SS is going to be amazing, but Ford has been known in the last few years to let their competitors make the first move. I suspect they'll have a new powerplant in the GT in the next couple of years. Great time to be a car person. |
